GSE Haulage has won an award for its environmental credentials. The award for Innovative Partnerships wad received by the company at the Environment Awards for Kent Business 2009.
The black tie award ceremony, which took place at Port Lympne Wild Animal Park, recognises the environmental work undertaken by Kent businesses, as well as rewarding those companies that have had a positive impact in the community.
GSE Haulage is the first haulage company in the country to fit all of its vehicles with a fuel saving device developed by Canterbury-based Oil Drum. The Save-Fuel On Demand Hydrogen Generator reduces fuel consumption by more than 10%, meaning that at current fuel prices, GSE will save more than £70,000 a year. The company has also seen a 10 per cent reduction in CO2.
Ricky Hemmings, Managing Director at GSE Haulage, said: “We were delighted to be recognised in these prestigious awards. This alone justifies our aim of reducing fuel consumption and emissions on Kent’s roads, by embracing technology developed in the county. We hope our exposure will encourage others to take the next step in improving their environmental credentials.”
GSE has invested £320,000 in sustainable practices. As well as installing Oil Drum’s technology, the company has introduced sleeper cab vehicles to reduce unnecessary mileage to and from base locations. A GPS management system enables GSE to incorporate backloading, reducing the number of journeys that vehicles make when they are empty.
